Hairstyling Challenge - Day 7

Today's hairstyle theme is: A Movie Character

Today is the last day of  this Hairstyling Challenge!

I chose this Jane Eyre hairstyle:

I have done this style once before and you can see my post about it at Old-Fashioned Charm. I used The Jane Eyre hair tutorial at Feelin' Feminine for this style.

My hair was very dry with waves left over from my braids yesterday.
I donned the black sweater set in honor of Jane Eyre.

It turned out messier than I had hoped (especially on the left side of the bun) and I also forgot that Jane Eyre's bun has visible braids wrapped around it. Oops!

My contacts were bothering my eyes but it made for an interesting photo.

Criss-crossed braids in the back.
It didn't turn out too bad considering the time and hair conditions I had to work with.

I didn't keep this style in all day because I had to shower and go to town to celebrate my mom's birthday. But it was nice while it lasted and I'll definitely do this style again!

Much thanks to Farmgirl for hosting this Hairstyling Challenge! I've really enjoyed fixing my hair in different ways and sharing photos with you! Thanks to Jemimah and Mel for all the lovely comments they've left for me this week!

Hairstyling Challenge - Day 6

Today's hairstyle theme is: Fresh For Summer

Check out Farmgirl's Day 6 hairstyle at A Simple Farmgirl!

I wanted something pretty, feminine and summery!
Plus I've been wanting to try this hairstyle again, I tried it last winter for the first time and really loved the results!

This is called the Rupunzel Braid because it's patterned after Rapunzel's hairstyle in the Tangled movie. This style was created by TorinPaige, a lady on YouTube who has amazingly long hair and does fabulous hairstyling videos.

Even though my hair is only medium length this style works pretty well.

It's basically two Dutch (inside out or raised) French braids on the sides coming together in a standard English braid on the back.

The only difference is that when you make the French braids you only add hair to the outside strand (never from the center of the head) and you make two tiny braids at the base of your neck to add into your braid at the bottom.

Add a pretty summery flower and you're ready for a summer picnic or shopping trip!

I also feel a little like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm or Pollyanna with my braid and my flower!

Later I'll be sporting this style as I go shopping for my mom's birthday. It was another lovely summer day and I'm very thankful for my photographer sister Miss Bea for the many lovely photos she took!

Please don't forget to visit A Simple Farmgirl and join in on the fun!

I can't believe that tomorrow is the last day of this challenge, it's been so much fun!

Hairstyling Challenge - Day 5

Today's hairstyle theme is: A Summery Updo

Check out Farmgirl's lovely Day 5 hairstyle at A Simple Farmgirl.

It has been such a lovely summer day and perfect for a cute up-do!

So I showered and didn't even bother to comb my hair (usually not a good idea though) and whipped together an up-do that I've only tried once before.

With my hair parted to the right, I clipped the front sides back with tiny jaw clips.

Then I used a larger jaw clip to clip up the back. Easy and it usually turns out pretty cute.

Hope you're having a lovely June day!

A Visit To The Library

Recently I've found several lovely photos of libraries and books that I wanted to share with you. I've included some quotes I've enjoyed recently. Enjoy!

“You don’t love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.” — Oscar Wilde

“In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” — Oscar Wilde

“‘Books are always good company if you have the right sort.’” — Jo’s Boys - Louisa May Alcott

“My personal hobbies are reading, listening to music, and silence.” — Edith Sitwell

"A synonym is a word you use when you can't spell the word you first thought of." - Burt Bacharach

"Don't waste your time waiting and longing for large opportunities which may never come. But faithfully handle the little things that are always claiming your attention." -F.B. Meyer

“How wise should we be if, with joyful certainty, we accepted each
unfolding of His will as a proof of His faithfulness and love!” —Susannah Spurgeon

"You can never be overdressed or overeducated." - Oscar Wilde

“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.” — Haruki Murakami

Hope you enjoyed!

Hairstyling Challenge - Day 4

Today the theme is: Unique or Strange

Check out the Day 4 post at A Simple Farmgirl.

Today was warm so I wanted some sort of up-do.

I've been learning how to do rope braids lately so I made three braids on the back of my head. (You can't see it here but there is a rope braid in the center.)
Then I collected the rest of my hair in a messy bun.

Accent with a cute ladybug pin that I made and viola!

I chose a ladybug to match my t-shirt. This is one of my favorites, it's actually a bright yellow but looks pale in this photo taken in the shade.

So this is my take on the Unique or Strange theme. This is definitely

Today was another challenge but I really enjoyed it! Thank you Farmgirl!

Hairstyling Challenge - Day 3

Today's theme was: Half

It was a bit tricky to come up with something that wasn't copycatting Framgirl's hairstyle. So I just made something up and it turned out better than I expected.

This does look like an inverted ponytail but it's really not. My hair was very wet when I did this style and it actually worked very well.

I parted my hair in the front on the side.

First I divided my hair in half horizontally at the back of my head. Then dividing the bottom section into two sections I brought them up over my hanging top layer and braided the two sections together. Using my small topsy tail tool I tucked the braid into the center of the hair below.

I did use one tiny elastic to tie off the braid so it wouldn't unravel and I did have to use two bobbypins to tuck in some stray hairs. I was pleased that I didn't have to use a lot of hair accessories for this style.

I rather like it and will definitely do this style again.

I had though of doing a hair tutorial video for this style. What do you all think? Did I explain it well enough or would a video be helpful?

Don't forget to check out the lovely Day 3 hairstyle post at A Simple Farmgirl. I know she'd love it if you joined in!

Much love,
Miss Laurie :)

Hairstyling Challenge - Day 2

Day 2 of Hairstyling Challenge at A Simple Farmgirl.

Today's theme is Basically Feminine

So I just did a simple hairstyle. This is one of my favorite ways to wear my hair because it is so simple and usually looks nice. A quick easy fix.

The very top hair pulled back and clipped with a sweet and simple silver barrette. I'm so blessed that my hair is wavy!

Today was also a picture day so that's why I have two different blouses in my hair photos.

Hope you're having a lovely day and hope you go on over to A Simple Farmgirl and join in with the challenge!

Much love,
Miss Laurie
